The plot toolbar runs across the bottom of the graph and provides quick access to common plot-formatting, navigation, and export tools.
It is based on the standard Matplotlib toolbar, with several additional CFTool-specific controls.
Overview
From left to right, the toolbar contains:
Font Size Slider
Adjusts the size of all plot fonts simultaneously — axes labels, legend, and title — while maintaining the same proportions as defined in the Settings dialog.
This makes it easy to scale text for presentations or printed figures without changing individual font settings.
Line Width Slider
Changes the thickness of all plotted lines by the same relative amount.
The relative proportions between datasets and fit curves remain fixed.
(Currently, this ratio is not adjustable but may be customisable in future versions.)
Legend Checkbox
Shows or hides the plot legend.
When off, legend space is freed and the plot expands slightly.
Navigation Tools
-
Home – restores the plot to its default zoom and pan state.
-
Back / Forward arrows – move through previous pan or zoom operations.
-
Pan tool – enables mouse drag navigation:
-
Left-click and drag → pan
-
Right-click and drag → zoom
-
-
Zoom tool – enables a drag-box zoom, allowing you to select a region to magnify.
Note: While the Pan or Zoom tool is active, the right-click context menu on the main graph is disabled.
Deactivate the tool to restore normal right-click menu access.
Borders and Spacing Tool
Opens a dialog for fine-tuning the plot layout — adjusting margins, spacing, and figure balance.
Plot Settings Tool
Opens the Plot Settings dialog, where you can modify:
-
Axis limits
-
Line formatting, colours, and symbols
-
Axis labels and tick marks
A small box is provided for title entry, but for more complex titles or formatted labels, use the Label Editor (supports Mathtext, a lightweight LaTeX-style markup).
Save / Print Tool
Opens the plot in a new window for printing or image export.
You can:
-
Send the plot to a printer, or
-
Save it in a variety of formats: PDF, SVG, PNG, EPS, and others.
The new window includes sliders for axis formatting.
The exported image adopts the aspect ratio of that window — resize it to your preferred shape before saving or printing.
By default, the graph uses an A4 landscape ratio.
Mouse Position Indicator
Located at the far right of the toolbar, this shows the current cursor coordinates within the plot area, which is useful for reading off data values or checking fit limits interactively.
Navigation Tip
Tip: A single click on the Home button resets both axes to their default full-range view — a quick way to recover from multiple zoom or pan operations.
