Reading results
Every results window carries the same two export buttons, the plot copies its curves as data, and the device itself is saved separately from any of its answers.
01The results as text
Each results window — the main solver results, the C–V results and the Schrödinger region — has a matching pair of buttons along the bottom:
- Copy Report places the whole report on the clipboard, ready to paste into an application of your choice.
- Save Results… writes the same report to a plain text file, offering a sensible default name for each window.
Both produce the same text, and every tab of the window is included, so the report is the complete answer rather than whichever tab you were looking at. Each one begins with the window’s title, the application version, the build, the materials-database revision and a timestamp — followed by the full layer structure listed surface to rear, and then the results themselves.
That header contains the basis of the report: a saved report identifies exactly what produced it. If there is a question about a report some time later, the version, the material data and the structure are all there to reconstruct the run.
02The plotted curves
The band-diagram plot exports separately, because a picture and its numbers are wanted in different places:
- Copy data puts the plotted traces on the clipboard as tab-separated columns — a depth column, then one column per trace — ready to paste into a spreadsheet. It copies the visible traces only, so hiding the ones you do not want is also how you choose the columns.
- To save the figure as an image, use the save button on the plot toolbar. That is the standard Matplotlib navigation bar, so the usual image formats are offered.
See The Plot Window for the trace toggles that decide what is drawn, and copied.
03Saving the device itself
Saving results is not the same as saving your device. Save Results… writes a one-way text snapshot of an answer; it does not reopen as an editable structure. To keep the device you built, use Save or Save As on the File menu, which writes the layer structure and its settings to a project file you can reopen and edit. Open, Open Recent and Open Example load one back in. The file format is covered in File Formats and Reference.
Keep the device file, not just the report. If you may want to re-run or change a structure later, save it with Save before you close. A results text file records what came out, but only the project file lets you reproduce or adjust the run.
