The File and Edit menus provide access to all core operations — loading data, saving projects, importing new datasets, and editing labels and settings.
These options mirror many of the toolbar and ribbon controls.
File Menu
New
Resets CFTool and opens the Data Input Form, ready for a new dataset.
Load Data
Opens a file dialog to load a text data file (tab- or comma-separated).
The imported data are immediately plotted in the main window.
Open Project
Opens a previously saved CFTool Project (.cfp) file.
Projects include data, fits, functions, and all formatting.
Save Project / Save Project As
Save the current session (data, fits, labels, axes, titles, legend, and styles) as a project file.
This preserves all work exactly as displayed.
The original text data file created when you first entered data is not overwritten — it remains as a backup.
Saving a project always creates a new file.
Export
Opens a submenu with options to export numerical and textual results for the currently active line:
-
Fit line data
-
Residuals data
-
Fit information text window
If an Integral or Differential is plotted, additional menu items appear to export those results as well.
Each export creates a text file containing the corresponding data.
Opens the current graph in a new window for printing or image export.
You can:
-
Send the plot to a physical printer, or
-
Save an image file in one of several formats (
.pdf,.svg,.png,.eps, and others).
The print window includes sliders for adjusting axis appearance before export.
The saved image adopts the same aspect ratio as the print window — resize it to your preferred shape before saving or printing.
By default, the graph uses an A4 landscape ratio.
Open Recent
Lists the ten most recently opened or saved files, allowing quick access.
Quit
Closes the application.
Edit Menu
Edit Data
Opens the Data Input Form, the spreadsheet-style table for entering, pasting, or editing X, Y, and σ data.
Import New Data / Blank Data Form
Allows you to load or enter new data into an existing project without losing formatting or fit settings.
You can:
-
Import new data from a file, or
-
Open a blank form and paste new data manually.
The new data replace the current dataset, but all labels, colours, and fit configurations are retained.
Tip: Save the modified work under a new project name if you wish to keep the original as a template.
Clear Form
Clears all data, file names, and fit information from both lines.
Use this to start fresh while keeping your current settings.
Clear Line 2
Removes only the second line (dataset or function) while preserving Line 1 and its fit. This is useful when switching from a two-line comparison back to a single-dataset plot.
Label Editor
Opens the label-editing dialog for axes, titles, and legend entries.
Labels can include mathtext (Greek symbols, subscripts, superscripts, etc.), and you can preview formatting before applying it.
Settings
Opens the Settings dialog for general application preferences.
